Pull up a chair.  Let’s have a chat.

I’m far more curious about you than you are about me.

What brought you here? What’s your story? Let me know at danielle.mario@cbc.ca if you have any comments, questions or ideas.

For anyone else that’s interested, I’m Danielle Mario. My parents, friends and coworkers call me Dani. You can too.

I grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.  That’s where I decided I wanted to be a journalist.  I was eight-years-old.  I started a publication called “Kidz News”.  The ‘z’ should tell you I was a pretty cool kid.  I had correspondents at the nearby elementary schools.  My hand-drawn word searches were far more charming than practical.  I braved a lot of blizzards for my 48-house delivery.

I quit after another kid ripped the Christmas edition in half and made fun of me.

I’ve since grown a much thicker skin.

I moved on to write for the Regina Leader-Post‘s youth section, Minus 20.

In 2005, I started studying at the University of Regina. I wrote for the student newspaper, the Carillon. When I finished my pre-journalism courses, I was accepted into the School of Journalism.

I worked in the fall of 2007 as a technical producer for Rawlco’s NewsTalk980 in Regina.

That winter, I started as a local reporter for the Saskatoon Starphoenix. After the work-term, I was accepted as a Joan Donaldson Scholar, and spent four months in Toronto working at CBC Newsworld (News Network) as an associate producer for CBC: News Morning and the Weekend Edition.

I finished my degree in 2009, and decided to move overseas. I chose Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where I worked as the English editor of the independent English newspaper, The UB Post.  I later worked for TUGS/Screen Inc., a private, domestic media firm. I filed several stories for Thomson Reuters, and volunteered as an anchor for Eagle Television‘s English news service.

I’m currently working as a newsreader and bimedial reporter for CBC Saskatchewan.
